We are planning on doing some painting. Will post before and afters here on Monday, most likely.
On Friday we are hoping to paint over the raw cement sections, with some white primer. We will then leave it on to dry good and proper for 24 hours. On Saturday we want to paint the passage, and the laundry and pantry. We have a gent who is helping us, so hopefully we get it all done on Saturday.
Mom is watching Kai. We will sleep over at Mom's on Friday and Saturday to make sure the house is aired nicely. And Kai gets to escape the paint fumes. On Sunday we will sleep back at home, make a nice big lunch and celebrate Kai's birthday. My Mom is on leave for from today for a week, and I can not wait. She is staying over, so we get a little break for all the normal day to day stuff. Mom sorts Kai out, makes food and normally does most of the laundry so its a total break for Klaus and I. Feels like a mini holiday coming up!
Speaking of Kai's birthday I need to get cracking on his letter. Klaus and I, my mom and sister each wrote a letter to him on his first birthday, and it is a tradition I hope to keep doing till his much older. Hopefully he can sit and read them one day, when he is older and appreciates the little traditions.
Oh and last night we eventually swapped out our chairs with my moms. Yeah for that. When I bought our dining room table a few years ago (will post some pics) I got the chairs with it, and I have never liked them. Chairs are so expensive though, and I had to get modern ones to go with our previous homes. In this house I want to go with the old antique stuff, and my mom has chairs (2 different sets of 4 and 2 old old high back table end type chairs) which is meant to come to me. So we agreed to swap. My sister liked my chairs better anyway. The old antiques have a lot of meaning to me now, as they were the chairs my mom grew up eating dinner with her family and the table end ones are my grandmothers grandmothers chairs. Old. It goes with our house now. The house calls for the vintage old antique look, and what better than having some real family memories nested in your home? I love the mix and match of it, and I love that it has such a rich history to it. I am also meant to get my mom's family table, but am not in a rush for that. I love our dining room table, which is also OLD. It was the boardroom table here at work, and was made form old roof rafters from demolished houses. The wood must be about 200+ years old by now. When our offices moved to smaller premises, and they decided to update to the more modern look, the table had to go. I offered them a pittance, and they accepted. I paid R2500 for the table with 10 chairs! The table is a 12 seater and its raw and beautiful. The true value is well over R15 000.00 so I honestly scored big time, and I am so glad I asked back then.
When we looked for a house our previous one and this one, I always make sure the table will have a special place where it will fit in and feature.
The mamma also gave us her cane furniture set. We have a two seater and two single chairs. I want to paint / spray them for a nice fresh updated look, and they will then live upstairs on the balcony. I am thinking I might do that while Klaus primes :) Much more fun project than painting the passage I think? Yes.
I leave you with a little quote which amused me no end:
"Women who aspires to be like men, lack ambition"
Happy women's day.
