8 weeks on ...

In our first week we did not do much, other than a quick visit to the nurse at the Intercare for a weigh in and a growth check.
Kai’s discharge weight was 2.690 and on our first visit to the Intercare at One week Old the weigh in was at 2.780.  A good 90grams up in just 4 days.

Our visitors during week one:
Margaret and Eugene

Week two we had another weigh in and a visit to the chiropractor, as Kai was struggling with some cramps.   After 3 visits at the chiro this was sorted out quick,  quick.  A miracle cure!  Aparently there is some missing bits when you give birth via a C-section as oppose to natural birth.
Our visitors during week two:
Claire James, Claudette, Elna, Aunty Jean, Tannie Ellie, Oom Pat, Elricka, Mom and Dad Borngraber
After our second visit to the chiropractor Mom and I stopped off at a farm stall en route back home after the chiro visit.  This was Kai’s first visit to a restaurant!  Two weeks old and already a social butterfly!

Week three I had to get my tooth fixed! Eventually.  So off we went to the dentist.  I have been with the same dentist since I was three, so Kai went to see Oom Apie, and we took some pics ofcourse!
Over the weekend Klaus and I took a drive down to the beach, for some KFC and had it down at the beach in the car.

Vistors during week three:
Nicolette, Elna, Uncle Jo and Aunti Jose, as well as Aunty Juta and Mom and Dad Borngraber.
Sadly Uncle Klaus passed away during this week as well.  Kai was named after Klaus’s uncle Klaus Dieter, and he never got to meet Kai.
Week four, was yet another visit to the nurse, now at 3.560 kgs, and 52 cm tall. Klaus was on leave during this week, as he only took his paternity leave once my Mom went back to work.  We decided to go visit my work as well this week.  And ended up going to visit Granny at work!  Poor little tyke had a busy week four!

Kai also had his first kiddies party this weekend.  Little Micayla turned One, and we were off to her birthday party on Saturday.
Somewhere around the five week mark Klaus and I decided to buy a new car.  A little I20 for me. I also had to go back to the dentist and had work started on a root canal!

Kai six week visit at the paediatrician went well, and he is super happy with the progress.
On his six week “birthday” he also got his jabs from the nurse at Intercare.  Not fun, but he handled them like a little champ!  No worries.

Our first sleep over at grannies also happened on the Friday nite at just six weeks and 1 day! Kai was not too happy with the change of environment initially, but soon adjusted, and spend the entire Saturday with Granny.

Night times are becoming MUCH better.  Feeds are at about 11 pm then at about 3/4 and again at 7!  So we are doing so well, and Kai is almost sleeping thru!  It is awesome.  He is such a little rock star!

And here we go ... Our first week

So on 11 August Klaus and I drive to Panorama hospital at the most ungodly hour of 5:30 so we can book into hospital at 6:00am.  I chose to have an elective C-section.  I just don't have the patience to wait for it all to happen naturally!

There was no time to get nervous as once we got to my room, it all happened very fast.  We just about had time for a quick, last picture of me with my huge tummy before I was hookced up for a quick monitor of the baby's heartrate, I was given a tiny little gown to put on, I swear they got it form the peadiatric ward, and the next thing I knew I was being wheeled into theater.  Klaus had to wait while I was prepped for surgery, and then within 15 minutes of Klaus walking in our lives were changed ...

A tiny 2.9 kg baby .... Kai Dieter was born at 08:20. A tuff little man from the first moment, he wee'd all over the doctor the moment he was taken out of the womb.  The first words from Doctor Atzl was not "Congrats on your little boy", or "Its a boy" or anything like that, It was "Oi, He just wee'd on me". A good laugh and a giggle later, Kai was passed over to Klaus and I for our first inspection of our little human.

The next couple of hours were kind of a blur, as I was taken to recovery, Klaus spent time with Kai kangarooing him.

At about 10 I eventually got back to the ward, and awaited my 2 boys to come back to me.  I had to try to breastfeed, we had to learn to change a diaper.  The first diaper was rather funny, Klaus and I put it on, but Kai wet his clothes and everything else, though his diaper was still clean and bone dry.  At this point though, I am a pro diaper changer, so I am sure Kai will forgive me ... someday!

My time in hospital went quick and we had tons of visitors at all hours of the day ... As I was in a private room, the hospital staff was not to strict on visiting hours.

I struggled with the breastfeeding for a while, until my amazing aunt came to the rescue on Friday afternoon.  After that session the little man, just fed and fed, and breastfeeding become a breeze. I am a total beliver in breastfeeding, but it sure was hard in the beginning.

 On our way home ...

Just a couple days old .... ans so cute
Our first week was hard!  I definitly had a bit of post natal depression, nothing to hectic.  Thank goodness my Mom was around for the first 3 weeks to help out and just be around. There were times in the first 3/4 weeks when I thought I would NEVER make it thru this!  But then I would sit and look at him, and just know EVERYTHING would be ok.

Introductions via pics

The happy couple:

Our Visit to France:

We got to visit some amazing friends in 2009 in France, Cindy and Stef Queret, we also got to meet up (by total accident) with some friends from home Jenny and Steven (in the pic above).  We had such an awesome time at Disney land.  Can't wait to take Kai.  He will have so much fun.

Cindy and Stef on our red top bus trip .... saw so many old buildings and amazing sites in France.

Ofcourse we saw the Eiffel tower, we went all the way to the top and felt like we were on top of the world.  It really is an amazing site.

My 30th in 2009

The Beggining

I woke up on Saturday and suddenly realized the last 8 weeks of my life have flown by ... So quickly.
See 8 weeks ago I gave birth to a little human! Our little human, Kai Dieter Borngraber.  While Klaus and I sat on our bed staring at the rat, I realized how much I am forgetting already.  These happy hormones surely work hard and fast. There are so many little things I know I want to remember and never forget, hence this blog.

I guess its also a way for me to record some of Kai's little memories, he can look back and when he can read, hopefully enjoy some of his little moments, like right now ... a little hick-up and a big fart :)!

A little more info about me.  I am a practical logical super organised lister maniac.  I am an accountant, BUT I love being creative and messy! I love spending time in the kitchen doing a big of baking here and there, trying  a new recipe, and making a huge mess.  I hate to clean up though!  I dont eat red meat or pork!  Stupid national geograpic show put me off meat about 5 years ago.  Still love fish and I mean I love fish anything from the ocean really and I can do chicken!

Being the practical organized freak that I am I guess it will only be right to start from the beginnig, as a little intro to who we are....The Three Borngrabers ...

Klaus and I met way back in 1999.  I instantly new I was gonna marry this guy, he had a yellow beatle parked in his driveway, and I always use to say I am gonna marry a guy who drives a yellow beatle... Poor man did not stand a chance!

We tied the knot in 2004 in the Tokia forest on Valentines day,in a happy informal barefoot fairy themed svary.  I only invted the people whom I really wanted there.  Thats me, I dont follow the rules, I make my own.  There were no "have to invites" on our list.

We had a little house built  the same year. It was small and cute, and we nursed and loved it so much.  In 2009 we decided it was time to move, we bought a new house, a little bigger, a little nicer, and now a little fuller.

Last year we started talking bout MAYBE starting a family, and before we knew what hit us, the little pink line appeared on the stick!  On 9 December 2010 we officially found out we were pregnant.  Shocked and excited, we tried to keep it a secret for a little while but that did not work.  I guess the "pregnant glow" hit me early and hard, everyone just knew and we were so lucky to have so much support!

And here we are, 10 months down the line.  Life with a new born has been a real change, but its fun and we are coping so well...

I am enjoying my time as a at home Mom for now till January, and while I have the time, hopefully I will use it wisely, and blog away regularly!

Lets see how well it goes.
